The Bedford QL military truck line was set at the end of the 1930s, at the request of the British Army, so that it could have a more modern and flexible transport vehicle. The tests were completed in 1940 and in early 1941 the Bedford QL was distributed to the operational departments. For the duration of the war it was used on the different fronts and a valid support was demonstrated to meet the logistical and transport needs thanks to the four-wheel drive traction and a relatively low weight that enhanced the load capacity. Thanks to its flexibility and robustness it was also used for the towing and transporting artillery pieces such as the 6 Pdr anti-tank gun or the 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun. Equipped with a 72-horsepower 6-cylinder gasoline engine, it was also characterized by ease of maintenance and repair, an important element on the battlefields.
