Italeri 1312 1/72 Fockewulf FW-190 D-9
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the best aircraft made during World War II. Produced in more than 20,000 units, since 1941, it has been, together with the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the most famous fighter of the Luftwaffe. In early versions, such as the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8, the fighter was equipped with a dual-star BMW 801 D-2 radial engine with 14,700 Hp that allowed it to reach a maximum speed of 653 km/h. Over time, the designers, from the successful aerodynamic cell of the aircraft, realized what can be considered its maximum evolution. The adoption of the powerful liquid-cooled 12-cylinder Junkers Jumo 213 engine required the overhaul of the aircraft’s design by characterizing it with an elongated nose. The D version was in fact dubbed by the Luftwaffe pilots “Langnasen-Dora” (Dora with a long nose) but, once in flight, they immediately appreciated its characteristics and potential. The FW-190D was able to compete on par with the most modern allied fighters such as the famous P-51D Mustang.
